Before the Dental Visit

The visit to the dentist starts before the date of your appointment. While scheduling a dental appointment with your Dentist in Raleigh for the first time, you may be asked to gather certain information regarding your medical history. This info is vital to Dr. Preston to know of any past health issues, whether oral health or overall health.

Some examples of vital information may be any implantable medical devices, past surgical procedures, or chronic medical conditions. This information is essential to know to provide the best care for the patient.

To ensure you receive the treatment you need, one of our friendly team members will oversee the schedules for the Dentist and hygienists. You can count on them to assist you with treatment plans and payment options. They will also work with you and your dental insurance providers to maximize your benefits and make the road to a new smile comfortable for you.

During the Dental Visit

While your exact schedule varies on the nature of the visit, a routine check-up will start with you being called back and placed in a dental chair. While in the chair, the dental hygienist will begin by cleaning your teeth.

Deep teeth cleanings help to remove plaque from the surfaces of your teeth that may otherwise cause cavities and tooth decay. In addition, your hygienist will floss in between your teeth to eliminate any plaque your toothbrush could not reach. Following that, we highly recommend getting a fluoride treatment to help strengthen teeth and reduce tooth decay. Read more here.

The Dentist Arrives

After the hygienist has finished your thorough teeth cleaning, Dr. Preston is called in to check your overall dental health and the teeth for cavities or other problems. The dentist will examine all teeth surfaces and the gum line to check for any issues.

If there are cavities present, Dr. Preston may ask if you want them filled during the visit. Suppose there are questionable areas on the surfaces of the teeth. In that case, she may offer a sealant treatment to reinforce the structure.

If there are issues with the gums, Dr. Preston will make recommendations regarding how best to care for them to prevent periodontal disease. Of course, she will also encourage you to continue to take good care of your teeth and maybe give you a few tips.

This moment is the best time for you to ask any questions you may have. It is also a great time to talk with Dr. Preston about anything that may be bothering you about your smile.

Many people are not content with their smiles. But you need to understand that most people are not born with perfect Hollywood teeth. This is where cosmetic dentistry comes in (follow this link).

Dr. Preston can correct crooked teeth, close gaps, correct stained or discolored teeth, chipped teeth, broken or missing teeth with dental implants, and even “gummy” smiles. You can finally have the smile you have always wanted. Your goals, concerns, and financial comfort level are considered when we tailor a treatment plan for your smile.

While many people grow up going to the dentist twice a year, some don’t go to the until adulthood. For those of you who have never had a general dentistry appointment before, you may be a little bit nervous.
